Air Force ROTC - The Air Force nursing scholarship program helps you pursue a nursing degree to earn an Air Force commission through Air Force ROTC. Nursing Scholarships are offered for 1 to 4 years. Only high school seniors or graduates who have not attended college full-time may qualify for the 4-year nursing scholarship. Students in college may apply for the 1 to 3-year scholarship. The Type I scholarships pay full college tuition, most mandatory fees, plus a textbook allowance. The Type II scholarships pay the same benefits except tuition is capped at $8,000 per year. All Air Force ROTC cadets on scholarship receive a $100 monthly nontaxable allowance during the school year. After you have completed all Air Force ROTC program requirements and your degree requirements, you will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force Nurse Corps and serve 4 terms on active duty. Newly commissioned nurses will complete licensing requirements after graduation. American Association of Homes for the Aging Sixteen Nurse Education Scholarships are offered to nurses who seek further education toward LPN, RN, or BSN status. Prospective applicants must work in an AAHA member facility and pledge to work for one year in the field of long-term care nursing after completing their education. Requests for applications must be made in writing, with a self-addressed, stamped envelope included, by May 2. Completed applications must be returned to AHAA by July 27. American Association of Occupational Health Nurses - Scholarships are awarded to occupational health nurses to be used towards a baccalaureate, masters or doctoral degree program in nursing. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an NLN-accredited program. American Holistic Nurses’ Association - Any nurse with some nursing of holistic health experience can apply for the Charlotte McGuire Scholarship. The Scholarship may be used for college tuition at an accredited nursing, holistic health, or holistic nursing program at the graduate or undergraduate level. It may also be used for AHNA-sponsored conferences. Those applying for a school scholarship must have nearly completed their nursing prerequisites and have a 3.0 grade point average, and have been a member of AHNA for 6 months. Applicants must submit a resume including educational and employment background, future educational and professional goals, purpose for requesting scholarship, projected expenses, copy of transcript, and any additional interesting factors. The amount of scholarship, criteria, and winner are chosen by a selection committee, and the winner is announced at the annual meeting. American Nephrology Nurses’ Association - The ANNA offers scholarships and fellowships in support of individuals in pursuit of baccalaureate and advanced degrees in nursing and dedicated to contributing to the renal community. ARMY ROTC - Four, three and two-year scholarships to students pursuing a baccalaureate degree at an NLN-accredited school of nursing. All scholarships pay most tuition costs, required educational fees, a flat fee for books, supplies and equipment, and provide a subsistence allowance of up to $1000 each year the scholarship is in effect. Association of Operating Room Nurses - Associate or active members of AORN who have maintained their membership for at least one year immediately prior to the application deadline are eligible to apply for a number of scholarships through the association. Candidates pursuing baccalaureate or graduate degrees in nursing must be enrolled in an NLN-accredited program and are required to supply evidence of current enrollment or acceptance in the program. Scholarships provide funds for tuition and registration fees only and are awarded on the basis of scholastic merit. Financial need is not a criterion for selection. Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses - AWHONN (formerly NAACOG) awards education fellowships to nurses. Applicants must be members who have been a full or associate member for at least one full year prior to the year of application, and who are pursuing a baccalaureate or master’s in nursing. The annual application deadline is April 5. AWHONN members may contact the national office each January for a current application (be sure to include your membership number). Business and Professional Women’s Foundation - The Foundation offers the New York Life Foundation Scholarship Program for Women in the Health Professions to women who are seeking education necessary for advancement within a career. Scholarships range from $250 to $1000 for tuition, fees, and school-related expenses such as child care and transportation. Applicants must be: female, 25 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen, officially accepted into an accredited program of study, be graduating within 1 to 2 years, and demonstrate critical need for financial assistance. Applications are available between November 1 and April 1. Application packets must be postmarked on or before April 15. Public Health Service, U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources - Through its Senior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern programs (COSTEP), the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps offers financial assistance to students in BSN or MSN programs during their final year of nursing school in return for a service obligation to the Public Health Service. Participants must be seniors in an NLN- approved baccalaureate nursing program, be commissionable as a Commissioned Officer- Student Training Extern Program participant (COSTEP), and agree to serve a service obligation with the Public Health Service agency. Department of Defense, United States Navy - The Nurse Candidate Program is designed for students attending an NLN-accredited BSN program in their junior year or senior year. An accession bonus of $5,000 and $500 monthly for each month enrolled as a full-time student for a maximum of 24 months is offered. The active duty service obligation for candidates enrolling in the program during the fourth year of nursing school is four years. For candidates enrolling in the program for two years, there is a five-year active duty commitment. Higher Education Division Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Department of Interior - This program provides grants from $200 to $7,000 to American Natives, Eskimos, Aleuts, or other Alaskan Natives who seek to continue their college education. Indian Health Scholarship Program - The Health Professions Scholarship provides financial assistance for students enrolled in an NLN-accredited, associate, baccalaureate, or master’s degree nursing program. Funding is available for up to four years. Open to American Indian or Alaska Natives only. Applicants must sign a contract agreeing to enter into a service obligation with the I.H.S. to provide health services upon graduation. Scholarship support is generous. Loyal Order of Moose, Elks, American Legion Scholarships - If you or a family member belong to one of these groups, check with the officer in charge of scholarships to find out if you are eligible for one of the scholarships. Maria Dolores Hernandez Fund - The purpose of the Maria Dolores Hernandez Fund is to develop the full leadership potential of students in the nursing profession through a unique combination of formal education, mentorship, peer support, and exposure to professional activities. Applicants must have an associates degree or diploma in nursing, licensure as a registered nurse in California, and be eligible for admission to CSUF as a nursing major. Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Inc. - The Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, encourages needy and deserving children of Marines and former Marines to begin or continue their college education in all fields, especially nursing. Awards range from $500 to $2500. Total family gross income cannot exceed $37,000. Deadline for submission of completed applications is February 1. Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization Scholarship - The Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization, which was named after the first African-American nurse in the United States, provides financial assistance to qualifying African-American students who are enrolled in schools of nursing. Criteria include: 1) Active and participating at least one year in Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization. 2) Junior status with 3.0 or better grade point average. National Association of Hispanic Nurses Scholarship - The NAHN of Orange County offers financial assistance to nurses in the CSUF BRN program who have a potential for leadership in nursing. National Association of Orthopedic Nurses - The NAON offers several scholarship awards to qualified students of nursing and professional nurses to assist in acquiring a bachelor or graduate degree. Three awards of $2000 each will be granted to RNs currently practicing in a primarily orthopedic setting. The annual application deadline is September 15. National Association of School Nurses - A $500 Lillian Wald Research Award is offered each year by NASN to a qualified professional school nurse engaged in the practice of school health, education of school nurses (nursing faculty), or the study of school nursing (student or graduate student). National Black Nurses’ Association - The Lauranne Sams Scholarship Award is for nursing students currently enrolled in nursing programs who demonstrate academic excellence, professional commitment, personal integrity, active involvement in the African-American community, and demonstration of need. National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution - DAR offers scholarships to students currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate school of nursing. Criteria include academic excellence, financial need, and commitment to a field of study. Candidates (male and female) must be sponsored by a local DAR. The award is presented twice a year with deadlines of February 15 for the April award, and August 15 for the October award. Native Hawaiian Health Professions Scholarship Program - This scholarship addresses the health needs of Native Hawaiians by helping to assure an adequate supply of appropriately trained health professionals to serve the underserved Native Hawaiian population. Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. - The NEF scholarships are available to Baccalaureate-prepared registered nurses who reside in any state in the US who are pursuing either the master's or doctoral degree. Each candidate must 1) Be a US citizen or have declared intention to officially become a citizen, 2) Hold membership in a national professional nursing organization, 3) Hold a registered nurse license in one state of the US, 4) Show evidence of previous scholarship, and 5) Show potential for making a contribution to the profession. Oncology Nursing Foundation - The Oncology Nursing Foundation offers scholarships to registered nurses with an interest in and commitment to oncology nursing. 32 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 are available to registered nurses currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in an NLN-accredited school of nursing. Sister Jane Francis Scholarship - Named for Sister Jane Frances, a founder and president of St. Jude Medical Center. Upon her retirement, nursing administration at St. Jude established this scholarship in her name in recognition of her lifelong advocacy of nursing and her support of excellence.
